Why Drainage Systems Are So Important for Properties in Sydney
Drainage is one of the most important considerations to take into account when you're building, renovating or expanding upon a property. Even so, this particular consideration is often overlooked – or at least not given the attention it requires. Properties suffer as a result, and their owners end up footing expensive repair bills down the road.
If you’re renovating or extending your house, it’s important to note if this project requires excavating into a slope (if often does). In this case, a slab usually rests on retaining walls that are installed below ground level of the structure. Every retaining wall must installed with adequate subsoil drainage, which must be located below the floor level and capable of directing water to outlets.
However, it is all too common for the drains to be installed at inappropriate depths. For example, subsoil drainage is capable of channelling water away from structures, buildings or pavements. But when it comes to seepage, water can pass out of these channels as quickly as it is directed into them. This can leave the ground saturated and ultimately compromise the structural soundness of your building or pavement.
